Our Vision

Everyone seeking sanctuary has a safe place to stay and the support they need to move forward with dignity.

Our Mission

Home4U provides safe, temporary homes and practical support to people seeking sanctuary who would otherwise be homeless.

We help people set and achieve small goals, get the advice they need, and build connections in their community.

We support people to make their own decisions, live with dignity, and take the next steps forward in their lives.

THE TEAMS THAT MAKE UP HOME4U

Our core staff

We are a small, dedicated team working to make a difference for those we support.

  • Operations Manager – leads day-to-day work, oversees safeguarding, fundraising, finance,  strategy, and measuring our impact.

  • Coordinators (2) – provide direct support to residents and help run our services.

  • Fundraising Assistant (part-time) – supports fundraising applications and helps us secure the resources we need.

Trustees

Our trustees provide oversight and guidance for Home4U. They make decisions for the charity and are responsible for ensuring our work aligns with our values and the needs of the people we support.

Key workers

We are keen to reintroduce

Voluntary key workers to strengthen the one-to-one support  we provide to residents, helping with signposting, referrals, and general wellbeing.

Key workers will play a vital role in empowering residents to take control of their future.

SUPPORT

We hope to develop a Support Group of volunteers who can help residents and Home4U in practical and meaningful ways. This could include organising activities and events to boost residents’ wellbeing, assisting with property preparation, and supporting fundraising. The group would help create a stronger sense of community and provide extra support to our team, allowing us to make an even bigger difference.

Our Journey

Home4U began in 2007, when founder  Sister Ruth O’Neill negotiated the free loan of a two-bedroom house in Cardiff to house asylum seekers who would otherwise have become homeless.

A Catholic Sister, Ruth was driven by her Christian values and a realisation that UK Government policy was driving some asylum seekers to destitution. She saw people without accommodation or financial support, who weren’t allowed to work to support themselves. In 2015, Home4U became a registered charity with the Charity Commission.

We now have five properties across Cardiff, accommodating ten adults. To date, Home4U has helped 83 people out of destitution.

Home4U believes every person should have a home and food until they are granted permission to stay or return to their home country.

Our work extends beyond providing shelter. We offer a small weekly allowance to our residents to help cover essential items such as food and toiletries. Our staff work closely with each individual to help them find volunteering opportunities or educational courses. And we help individuals integrate into their local community.

Our funders and supporters

Our work is made possible by our funders, partners and supporters. We are immensely grateful to all the organisations and individuals who contribute time, resources and financial aid to Home4U. Together, we are providing much-needed support to people seeking asylum and facing destitution and homelessness in Cardiff.
